Cheney: Iraq Not Worth Casualities

Wednesday September 29, 2004
The Seattle PI has unearthed remarks Vice President Dick Cheney made in August 1992 as Defense Secretary -- 18 months after the first Iraqi War. Speaking before an audience in Seattle, Cheney responded to a question by saying: "And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth? And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right... and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq." About 150 American servicemen were killed in the first Iraqi War; more than 1,000 have died in this second one.
