Mt St Helens Awakens
Wednesday March 9, 2005
Some excitement out here in the Northwest tonight as Mt St Helens decided to burp a bit, about 5.25 PST on Tuesday 8 March. USGS says the plume was probably mostly steam, based on its color, but that it may have also contained some ash. Based on pilot readings, the plume reached about 36,000 feet; the rim of the volcano is 8,325 feet. See pictures at the USGS web site.
