Americans Disagree With Congressional Action
Tuesday March 22, 2005
ABC News reports that about seven in 10 Americans believe that Congressional Palm Sunday actions on behalf of the parents of Terri Schiavo were inappropriate and about six in 10 agree with the Florida court decision to remove her food tube. These are amazing statistics, given the amount of media and political attention and given the nature of photographs used to illustrate the story. The file photos
often make it appear as though Schiavo is sharing an intimate moment of mutal laughter with her mother. However, doctors say that her cerebral cortext has atrophied; this is the portion of the brain that provides cognitive function. She is unable to swallow, which is why she has taken nourishment from a feeding tube for 15 years.
