Hawaii Caps Gas Prices
Monday August 29, 2005
Hawaii is the first state to cap gasoline prices, according to a Detroit TV station. The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) has capped the wholesale price, with taxes, at $2.74. If stations keep "their typical 12-cent markup" ... that would put prices at the pump at $2.86. The PUC wholesale price rests on spot prices in Los Angeles, New York and the US Gulf Coast. According to AAA, prices in Hawaii are the highest in the nation, exceeding California by four cents. There is no cap on retail prices.
