Ophelia Still a Threat

Saturday September 10, 2005
As of 11 pm Saturday (eastern), Hurricane Ophelia was still heading towards the Carolinas at 80 mph, but NOAA now says there is a only 19 percent chance it will come within 65 nautical miles of Myrtle Beach by 8 pm Tuesday. As far as other targets go: Wilmington, NC (18%) ; Charleston, SC (17%) ; and Morehead City, NC (16%). In comparison, forecasts for the equivalent period for Katrina show slightly higher probabilities for New Orleans (26%) and Gulfport (23%). See strike forecast map for Ophelia.
