Scanlon Turns State Evidence
On Friday, former Tom DeLay aide Michael Scanlon was charged with conspiracy to defraud American Indian tribes and bribe gonvernment officials; his partner was Jack Abramoff, who was indicted in the spring on federal conspiracy, wire fraud and mail fraud charges. Scanlon is scheduled to appear in court Monday and will enter a guilty plea in a deal crafted with prosecutors. Another Abramoff associate, David Safavian, General Services Administration (GSA) chief of staff from May 2002 - January 2004, was indicted in October in connection with lying and obstructing investigations into Abramoff's activities.
