Port Deal Bigger Than Reported

Tuesday February 28, 2006
At least two media outlets are now reporting what we reported here on 20 February: the potential impact on American ports is far larger than the six cities being reported. Per this screenshot, the P&O North America website shows an extensive set of operations -- greater than mainstream media reports or a statement by the Department of Homeland Security.

P&O US Port Operations

The two accounts ran on Friday, 24 February. First, UPI reported that the deal affects "port terminal operations in 21 American ports, far more than the six widely reported." Also, WorldNetDaily wrote that the deal is "22 U.S. ports, not six as previously reported by most major media."

Also, the end of last week the DHS identified seven affected port operations, adding two and removing one from the six listed in mainstream media news accounts.

I have written top officials at P&O North America, asking them about the discrepency as well as the impact on Tampa, a new contract announced in late January. Stay tuned.
