Wednesday March 22, 2006
A female Iraq War veteran is the Democratic candidate for an open House seat in the Sixth Illinois Congressional District. Tammy Duckworth, 38, will face Republican Peter Roskam; the two are vying for the seat held by retiring Rep. Henry Hyde (R) since 1975.

Duckworth, an Army National Guard helicopter pilot, is one of several Iraq War vets running for Congress this year. Only Van Taylor is the running as a Republican.
