Election to Replace Cunningham Still Hanging

A Democrat, Francine Busby, leads the field of 18 in a special election held Tuesday to replace indicted Rep. Randy (Duke) Cunningham (CA-50). Busby ran an unsuccessful race against Cunninghman in 2004, where she pulled 36 percent of the vote.
Left hanging are Republican lobbyist and former Representative Brian Bilbray (15 percent) and venture capitalist Eric Roach (14 percent). Final results are expected Thursday afternoon, after 10,000 provisional and absentee votes are tallied.
The top two candidates will face the voters in a June run-off and will complete Cunningham's term. Cunningham was convicted in March and sentenced to more than eight years in prison for accepting $2.4 million in bribes.
