Intrigue in Alaska

Friday September 1, 2006
The Sunlight Foundation unearths a three-year old LA Times story of "Sen. Ted Stevens official actions in the U.S. Senate that have benefited the clients of his son, state Sen. Ben Stevens." just as the FBI "[raids] the offices of at least six Alaska lawmakers [including Sen. Ben Stevens] Thursday in a search for any ties between the legislators and a large oil field services company... VECO officials Bill Allen, Rick Smith and Pete Leathard were named in the warrant."

Those lawmakers identified in news stories: Sen. John Cowdery, R-Anchorage, the Senate Rules Committee chairman; Rep. Vic Kohring, R-Wasilla, the chairman of the House Special Committee on Oil and Gas; Rep. Pete Kott, R-Eagle River, former House speaker; Sen. Donald Olson, D-Nome; Rep. Ben Stevens, R-Anchorage; and Rep. Bruce Weyhrauch, R-Juneau.
