Although that famous photo of her on a Harley was faked, the persona it represented was not. Ann Richards (73), who died Wednesday from complications with esophogal cancer, was, in southern terms, "a piece of work." This tribute from Molly Ivins is a must read. So is seeing the real Richards on a motorcycle.

The Democratic Party will miss her wit; the Republicans, not so much. Richards on then-Vice President George H.W. Bush: "Poor George, he can't help it. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth."
