Update: Clinton Talking Point Originated At DOJ

Friday March 23, 2007
Last week, the blogspace and MSM were participating in a Bush Administration generated echo -- that Clinton's firing of 93 US Attorneys was the real politically-motivated act, not Bush's firing of eight during mid-term.

Courtesy of that AttorneyGate-generated massive e-mail dump, we now know that this (very viral) spin (otherwise known as a logical fallacy) originated with the Department of Justice.

I already told you about the bipartisan Congressional Research Service study -- showing that mid-term firings are rare (two of 486 since 1980 clearly forced out mid-term). Additional number crunching is in today's LA Times:

Reagan replaced 89 of the 93 U.S. attorneys in his first two years in office. President Clinton had 89 new U.S. attorneys in his first two years, and President Bush had 88 new U.S. attorneys in his first two years.

Arghhhh! It takes what seems seems like only seconds to create a diversion like this one .... that then takes days of research to rebut. Unfortunately, many folks never see the rebuttal.
