Iraq War Reaches Four-Year Milestone

On the fourth-year anniversary of the fall of Baghdad President Bush called on America to support immigration reform. US Liberals Guide Deborah White asserts we remain "mired" in Iraq and should take stock of the costs of this discretionary conflict.

For example, today in Salon, Mark Benjamin reports that injured troops are being sent back to Iraq. And as part of the surge the President announced earlier this year, 12,000 National Guard troops are also returning to Iraq; "most of the soldiers have already spent 18 months away from their civilian jobs and their families."

On Monday in Najaf, "one of Iraq's holiest cities," thousands peacefully protested continued US presence in the country.
