Congress Issues Subpeonas In US Attorneys Case

Wednesday June 13, 2007
The New York Times reports that Congress has issued subpoenas for former White House counsel Harriet Miers and former top Karl Rove aide Sara Taylor in the investigation over the firing of eight United States attorneys.

The Senate Judiciary Committee subpeonaed Taylor, and the House Judiciary Committee, Miers. Until last month, Taylor worked for Karl Rove as the White House political director. Miers, formerly White House counsel, was briefly a nominee for the US Supreme Court.

This is the latest volley in the confrontation between Democratic Congressional leadership and the White House over the management of the Department of Justice.
