Elected to the state legislature in 2002, Barrasso was the chair of the Wyoming Senate Transportation, Highway and Military Affairs Committee. In his application for the position, which is only through 2008, Barrasso wrote:
I believe in limited government, lower taxes, less spending, traditional family values, local control and a strong national defense... In the state Senate, in addition to receiving an 'A' rating from the NRA, I have voted for prayer in schools, against gay marriage and have sponsored legislation to protect the sanctity of life.
The other two nominees offered by the GOP were Cheyenne attorney Tom Sansonetti and former state Treasurer Cynthia Lummis. Barrasso says he plans to run in 2008 to fill the remainder of the term, which runs through 2012.

All right another good ol’ boy ’shoe in the bad’ GOP vote for corporations; etc. I don’t think anyones surprised. This guy won’t help do anything, and will be pretty much worthless. Hopefully he’ll be good for the environment atleast…
So Jesse, what would you replace those “bad corporations” with? Would it be better if all businesses were owned and run by the government?
I don’t think there are any other alternatives are there?

H, Jesse:
He represents Wyoming — is that your home?
While it’s nice to think of Congressmen being statesmen — their first loyalty is to their constiuents. If they want to be a change agent — then they have to convince their constiuents first, or they won’t get re-elected.
It’s far too soon to say he’s going to be “worthless”
