Dems "Debate" Online

Saturday September 15, 2007
The Huffington Post, Slate (owned by the Washington Post) and Yahoo! are sponsoring the first online presidential "debate" -- between Democratic candidates. Moderator: Charlie Rose, PBS.

The press release says Rose will ask questions generated from e-mail or videos. The clips will be available online; on Wednesday 13 September, voters will be able to use a a player on Yahoo! to watch the candidates and/or questions of their choice. There are four topics: education, health care, the Iraq war and "wild card." (tip)

Update 1: Wired reports that YouTube has nixed the mash-up option, "reducing the once-bold experiment to little more than a fancy online version of an on-demand cable television offering."

Update 2: the mash-up is back on, using Yahoo!'s Jumpcut video hosting/editing service. There are polls: "vote if you like this mash-up" and a "vote for your favorite candidate" (closes 21 September).
