On 23 October 1973, President Richard Nixon agreed to hand over the court-subpoenaed tapes of his conversations surrounding the Watergate break-in. It was Nixon's refusal to hand over the tapes that led him to fire special Watergate prosecutor Archibald Cox. Nixon would resign less than a year later.

Almost 100 years ago, 25,000 women marched down 5th Avenue in New York, demanding the right to vote. The year was 1915, and this was reportedly the largest woman's suffrage parade on record. Women came from every state and 24 countries.

And in 1946, the United Nations held its first session in New York City.
