Congress Poised For First Veto Override

The House of Representatives voted (361-54) Monday to override the President's veto of the $23 billion Water Resources Development Act of 2007, H.R.1495. All "nay" votes were Republican, and there were 90 more votes than needed for the two-thirds vote required. The Senate is expected to vote this week, possibly today.

President Bush used the veto only once in the first six years of his administration, when Congress was Republican.
