Give Me A Break

Wednesday January 9, 2008
I've not been a Hillary Clinton fan simply because I think Bush-Clinton-Bush-Clinton is not a good precedent. That said, the bolivating talking heads and campaign spokesmen just might push me over the edge.

Do not (!) believe what you hear on TV about "the emotional" moment ... unless you've watched the entire two (2) minute clip. (video, transcript).

I dare you to watch that clip and then characterize Clinton's response as getting emotional about "her appearance", as Barack Obama campaign co-chair Jesse Jackson, Jr just did on MSNBC. Even TMP characterizes the question as being "about her looks" ... like the questioner (not aligned with Hillary) asked only one. My transcript from the clip:

"My question is very personal. How do you do it? <laughter> How do you, how do you ... keep upbeat and so wonderful?"

Watch it yourself. YouTube.

Obviously, there was a reference to Clinton's appearance, based on how she began her answer. But the question not vocalized was the question Clinton answered, quickly turning, well, personal as she talked about her concerns for the county. More from Linda Lowen.

And if you haven't read it see, read Gloria Steinem in the NYT. Don't let the headline serve as a stumbling block. That's not an accurate summary or lede.

Let the flames begin.

Ooops. The post was accidentally set to private. Originally intended to be posted at noon.

I’m with you 100%, Kathy. Between the barely-disguised glee at the prospect of her leaving the race if defeated in NH, to the anointing of Obama as the nominee-apparent by the right-wing pundits already digging for a buried swiftboat in his past, to the shameful reporting about the “emotional” incident by hypocritical morons who have been criticizing her for being unemotional– the press is shameless in its advancing of its own pre-determined storyline for this campaign rather than actually reporting what is happening. When the backlash comes and the people start noticing that the world the news media presents is not related to the world they are living in — and it will happen because their arrogance just keeps growing — the mainstream media will suddenly discover that their river of influence has been diverted and their formerly waterfront property is now landlocked and deserted.

Thank you for allowing me this rant! :)

Thanks for ranting!

Seriously … I’m getting my knickers in a knot over this.

And I love your closing metaphor!

The first time I heard of this incident it was from a women. Her take was that it was phony.

IM(~H)O, this was a replay of the WJC-lipquiver
