Richardson Bows Out

Thursday January 10, 2008
Richardson
Iowa and New Hampshire have three casualties: Sen. Joe Biden, Sen. Chris Dodd and Gov. Bill Richardson. Richardson's formal announcement is to come on Thursday, according to press reports.

If the President was hired, like a traditional CEO, then the New Mexico executive would have been a shoe-in, as he is the most qualified candidate in either party. But that's not how politics work, even though many think there is little real difference between candidates and parties. Richardson fared better in New Hampshire than in Iowa, but the momentum -- and votes -- are with the top three candidates: Clinton, Edwards and Obama.

It remains to be seen if South Carolina will take a favorite son approach to the Edwards candidacy later this month.

It is shame that our system of electing a president does not consider the competence and experience of the candidate running for that office. How could Richardson with his experience fare so badly and the other candidate with no experience, no political accomplishments, could be doing so well is hard to understand.

Hello, Rajen:

What our system seems to take into the most consideration is an ability to raise money for ads and a political organization. :-/

That seems to be followed by how telegenic/empathetic/friendly the person is.

I’d like to hear each candidate speak candidly about the debt — not the 10 second soundbite (or its website equivalent) and not the orchestrated debate snippet. Take one topic — the national debt — put them ALL around a table — and have them hash it out for an hour or two. Just that one issue. No scripts. Heck, maybe even have a REAL debate about the issue — not what the TV folks call a debate.

Hmmm … really? How about Gov Romney? What’s the problem with him? Doesn’t fit the EEOC approach that we now need something other than a Caucasian male? Is he too religious? Perhaps the problem is he has that smudge on his record, the one where his leadership saved the Salt Lake City Olympics…we all know that it is unforgiveable to promote anything having to do with the state where WJClinton took third in 1992.

And here goes one of the three I was suppose to “vote” for (had I been a US citizen) according to the voting guides Kathy published…. ;-)

Hi, Alphast — yes, I liked him, too.

DPB, there is no comparison, IMO, in records. There is also very little comparison between the skills you need to be a capitalist and those needed to lead a government at any level — local, state, federal.
