Huckabee: Amend The Constitution to "God's Standards"

Wednesday January 16, 2008

Republican candidate Mike Huckabee has is linking religion and the Constitution in this videoclip (tip).

I believe it's a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And that's what we need to do is to amend the Constitution so it's in God's standards rather than try to change God's standards so it lines with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.

Another on Huckabee's weight loss.

He and his ilk bend, if not amend, the words of the living God everyday. He has obviously never tried to amend the Constitution.

This group represents a very serious threat to everything the United States stands for.

If God really wanted the Constitution amended, then I’m sure she would have done it by now. So, either the document is okay the way it is, or… even she doesn’t have enough power (or money, drugs, prostitutes, SuperBowl tix, etc.) to sway the hearts of a super-majority of senators, representatives and state legislatures.

Totally agree with all commenters here. God should stay as far away of politics as possible. God and politics relationship is about the same as nuns and brothels…

I meant that it should remain as it is: as distant as humanly possible.

Thanks, folks. I’ve subsequently found out he was talking about the sanctity of marriage and a constitutional amendment on that subject. Homosexuality being a sin, and all of that.

I just ran across this on the web. (The link is the video clip where he makes the statement.) I wonder how that would work, would we go with the King James, the Revised Standard, the New Revised Standard. Would there be a committee of biblical scholars to help determine the earliest and most accurate text? Maybe the Pope could be called in to arbitrate disagreements.

It brings this verse to mind: “…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” This could be easily implemented. I’m sure the Republicans would be behind it 100%

Amendment XVIII
Section 1. All citizens and residents of the United States shall be provided adequate food, drink, shelter, clothing, and health care. All incarcerated citizens and residents of the United States shall be provided weekly visits.
Section 2. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.
