MySpace, MSNBC To Send Two To Conventions

Want to go to the conventions but you're not a delegate or one of the handful of bloggers picked to cover the event? Then check out the Decision08 Convention Contest, sponsored by MySpaceImpact, MSNBC.com and NBC News. (tip)

The winners of the video submission contest will attend either the Democratic National Convention in Denver, CO (25-28 August) or the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, MN (1-4 September).

You have to be a member of the MySpace community to submit your video. The video should be 1-2 minutes in length and should "[demonstrate] why you are the right person for the gig: Why will you get the scoop no one else can? How are you going to stand out in the crowd?" [more rules]

Timeline

  • 26 June - 16 July.
    Submit videos on the contest website
  • 16 July.
    A panel of VIP judges, including the team from "Morning Joe" on MSNBC, begins judging. Criteria: 25 %, creativity; 25%, originality; 25%, political knowledge; 25%, entertainment value/appeal
  • 21 July.
    Top five (5) finalists announced.
  • 21 July - 28 July.
    Registered MySpace users may vote on the videos.
  • 29 July.
    Two (2) grand prize winners announced.

Prize package includes round-trip coach airfare, ground transportation, five (5) night’s standard, double occupancy hotel accommodations, a stipend for meals and credentials for each Grand Prize Winner (which will give each Grand Prize Winner access to the official convention spaces and speeches to "report" from inside the convention center).

Each Grand Prize Winner will be paired with representatives of the Newsvine community (an MSNBC property) and will have access to NBC news’ media center at each convention. Each Grand Prize Winner’s video and text-based reporting may be posted on the Decision 08 Community, Newsvine.com, the MSNBC Site and possibly on NBC News and/or MSNBC TV.
