Remembering Jack Kennedy
Tuesday November 25, 2008
Saturday was the anniversary of John F. Kennedy's assassination in Dallas, TX. Forty-five years ago today, we buried him, the 35th President of the United States. Deborah White reflects on that day and provides us with a JFK gallery from the National Archives.
If you were alive in 1963, where were you? What do you remember about JFK, about that day or time?

I was walking away from shop on my way to Algebra when the announcement was made over the school intercom. No one cried, but most everyone was stunned. I remember being glued to the TV(B&W) as they brought Oswald in. Then Ruby shot him. Even as a kid I thought it was a Russian plot. Now, not so much.
I still believe Oswald was the killer but how Ruby figured into it still makes me say hmmm?
Most of all, November 22 is my father’s birthday. His U.S. flag from his casket sits upon our fireplace mantel. He fought in the battle of the bulge near the end of the war. He never spoke much about it till close to the end of his life.
So, for me, it’s a day to remember two fallen soldiers.

Thanks, Chuck.
I remember the omnipotent voice coming over the loudspeaker (PA systems) and telling us that the President had been shot. I was in the third grade.
