Prohibition Ends

On 5 December 5 1933, the nation's experiment with Prohibition came to an end, after almost 14 years. Utah was the 36th (and final) state to vote for the 21st Amendment, repealing the 18th Amendment. But because states regulated local sale and distribution of alcohol, there were still only 19 states where citizens could legally buy alcohol. Mississippi, the last dry state in the country, ended Prohibition in 1966.
