Happy Trails!

I am now the "ex-guide" to US Politics at About.com. For those of you who have become virtual friends over the years, consider following me on Twitter (@kegill) or reading me at Newsvine or The Moderate Voice. I look forward to brushing virtual shoulders again soon!

WHAT???

Just last night I blasted the editors of the SEATTLE TIMES for abdicating their First Amendment responsibilities. In this regard, I held up the NYT as the lone holdout in the realm of “keeping them honest.”

What has our democracy come to when papers like the NYT pull the plug on investigative blogging?

I valued deeply the fact that you never lowered your standards to wallow in the info-tainment “issues” of the day. I admired the breadth of your understanding and appreciation for what’s happening in politics.

I looked forward each day to see what you had to say because you and your loyal followers ~ including the infamous Chuck ~ always, always had something smart and worthwhile to say. Y’all expanded my world view and made me a better person.

Now, your voice is muted. Shame on the NYT for pandering to the lowest common denominator. This isn’t what your paper is about.

Our economy is in deep trouble. Our democracy is faltering. We need more serious investigation not less.

Hi Kathy,

Sorry about that. I kept reading you on this blog because I liked your non-conventional and open minded approach. I’ll follow you on your other blogs with pleasure.
