1881: Kansas is the first U.S. state to prohibit all alcoholic beverages.

1906: WK Kellogg and Charles D. Bolin incorporate Battle Creek Toasted Corn Flake Co. in Michigan.

1942: President Roosevelt signs executive order 9066, which allows the US military to relocate Japanese-Americans to internment camps.

1945: During World War II, 30,000 United States Marines landed on the Western Pacific island of Iwo Jima; America took control of the island after a month of heavy fighting.

1953: Georgia approves the first literature censorship board in the US.
