Governors of the U.S.

Most states hold elections for governor on an alternating cycle with Presidential elections: there are 36 statehouses on the block in the off-cycle (see 2006) and 11 statehouses on the block in the presidential cycle. The other three are elected in odd-years.

In the 2008 election, there are two Democratic governors and one Republican governor not seeking another term.

  8. UT - Huntsman (R) seeking second term
  9. VT - Douglas (R) seeking second term
  10. WA - Gregoire (D) seeking second term
  11. WV - Manchin (D) seeking second term
