  • 1867: Congress overrides President Andrew Johnson's veto, granting all adult male citizens of the District of Columbia the right to vote; this was the first time in American history that African-American men were granted the right to vote.
  • 1918: U.S. President Woodrow Wilson outlines his "14 Points" for achieving a lasting peace in Europe.
