What is a primary?

A primary election lets voters choose candidates for an upcoming election - in this case the 2010 mid-term elections on November 2nd. "Primaries" are carried out by the government on behalf of Republican and Democratic parties. Voters must declare affiliation with one party or the other. Third parties typically select their candidates through a means less formal that a voting primary.

In a run-off election, Rob Woodall (56%) beat Jody Hice (44%) for the Republican nomination.

District Nine

Tom Graves (55%) beat Lee Hawkins (45%) for the Republican nomination.

District Twelve

Ray McKinney (62%) beat Carl Smith (38%) for the Republican nomination.

District Thirteen

Mike Crane (68%) beat Deborah Honeycutt (33%) for the Republican nomination.

Governor

Nathan Deal (50%) beat Karen Handel (49%) for the Republican nomination.
