A US military intelligence official reported Friday that "criminals, as opposed to terrorists with an overt political motivation, have conducted about 80 percent of the recent attacks" in Iraq.

Cheney: Iraq Not Worth Casualities
The Seattle PI has unearthed remarks Vice President Dick Cheney made in August 1992 as Defense Secretary -- 18 months after the first Iraqi War. Speaking before an audience in Seattle, Cheney responded to a question by saying: "And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth? And the answer is not very damned many.

Iraq Death Toll Passes 1K
AP reports that the US military death toll in Iraq has passed the 1,000 mark since the start of military operations in March 2003.

Dogs Authorized in Iraq
USA Today reports that military commanders in Iraq approved the use of dogs in interrogations at Abu Ghraib five months after Secretaray of Defense Donald Rumsfeld had barred the practice at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
