Here are the primary results from the 2012 Republican presidential contest, which began in Iowa on Jan. 3 and continued for nearly six months, until Utah held the last of the primaries in the nation on June 26.
More than 400 delegates were at stake on Super Tuesday 2012, which was March 6.
The most serious Republican contenders were former House Speaker Newt Gingrich; U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas; former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney; and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania.
Romney clinched the nomination in late May.
Republicans who dropped out early in the process are U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota; former Godfather's Pizza chief executive officer Herman Cain; former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty; former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman; and Texas Gov. Rick Perry.
There are 2286 delegates. To win the nomination, a candidate must win 1144 delegates in 2012.
Iowa Caucuses
The Iowa Republican caucuses were held on Jan. 3, 2012. The results are:
- Santorum: 24.6 percent or 29,839 votes
- Romney: 24.5 percent or 29,805 votes
- Paul: 21.4 percent or 26,036 votes
- Gingrich: 13.3 percent or 16,163 votes
- Perry: 10.3 percent or 12,557 votes
- Bachmann: 5 percent or 6,046 votes
- Huntsmand: 0.6 percent or 739 votes
Bachmann suspended her campaign after Iowa.
New Hampshire Primary
The New Hampshire primary was held on Jan. 10, 2012. The results are:
- Romney: 39.3 percent or 97,532 votes
- Paul: 22.9 percent or 56,848 votes
- Huntsman: 16.9 percent or 41,945 votes
- Gingrich: 9.4 percent or 23,411 votes
- Santorum: 9.4 percent or 23,362 votes
- Perry: 0.7 percent or 1,766 votes
Huntsman and Perry ended their campaigns following the primary.
South Carolina Primary
The South Carolina primary was held on Jan. 21, 2012. There were 25 delegates at stake. The results are:
- Gingrich: 40.4 percent or 243,153 votes
- Romney: 27.8 percent or 167,279 votes
- Santorum: 17 percent or 102,055 votes
- Paul: 13 percent or 77,993 votes
Florida Primary
The Florida primary was held on Jan. 31, 2012. The results are:
- Romney: 46.4 percent or 771,842 votes
- Gingrich: 31.9 percent or 531,294 votes
- Santorum: 13.4 percent or 222,248 votes
- Paul: 7 percent or 116,776 votes
Nevada Caucuses
The Nevada caucuses were held on Feb. 4, 2012. The results are:
- Romney: 50.1 percent or 16,486 votes, and 10 delegates
- Gingrich: 21.1 percent or 6,956 votes, and four delegates
- Santorum: 18.8 percent or 6,175 votes, and three pledged delegates
- Paul: 10 percent or 3,277 votes, and two pledged delegates
Colorado Caucuses
The Colorado caucuses were held on Feb. 7. The results are:
- Santorum: 40.3 percent or 26,614 votes
- Romney: 34.9 percent or 23,012 votes
- Gingrich: 12.8 percent or 8,445 votes
- Paul: 11.8 percent or 7,759 votes
Minnesota Caucuses
The Minnesota caucuses were held on Feb. 7. The results were:
- Santorum: 44.9 percent or 21,932 votes
- Paul: 27.1 percent or 13,228 votes
- Romney: 16.9 percent or 8,222 votes
- Gingrich: 10.8 percent or 5,272
Missouri Caucuses
The Missouri caucuses were held on Feb. 7. The results were:
- Santorum: 55.2 percent or 138,957 votes
- Romney: 25.3 percent or 63,826 votes
- Paul: 12.2 percent or 30,641 votes
Gingrich did not qualify to be on the ballot.
Maine Caucuses
The Maine caucuses were held from Feb. 4 through 11. The latest results are:
- Romney: 39.2 percent or 2,190 votes
- Paul: 35.7 percent or 1,996 votes
- Santorum: 17.7 percent or 989 votes
- Gingrich: 6.2 percent or 349
Arizona Primary
The Arizona primary was held on Feb. 28. The results were:
- Romney: 47.3 percent or 216,805 votes
- Santorum: 26.6 percent or 122,088 votes
- Gingrich: 16.2 percent or 74,110 votes
- Paul: 8.4 percent or 38,753 votes
