  • John Paul Stevens (1975-present)
    Stevens was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Ford. A native of Chicago, IL (b. 1920), he attended University of Chicago and Northwestern University School of Law. He was a U.S. Naval Reserves Lieutenant Commander, 1942-1945.

    Prior to becoming a Supreme Court Justice, he was a law clerk for Justice Wiley Rutledge. He was in private practice in Chicago, Illinois and taught at Northwestern University School of Law and the University of Chicago School of Law.

    He was nominated to the US Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit Nominated by President Nixon on September 22, 1970 (seat vacated by Elmer Jacob Schnackenberg). He was nominated to the US Supreme Court on November 28, 1975 (seat vacated by William O. Douglas).

  • Antonin Scalia (1986-present)
    Scalia was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Reagan. A native of Trenton, NJ (b. 1936), he attended Georgetown University and Harvard Law School.

    Prior to becoming a Supreme Court Justice, he was in private practice in Cleveland, Ohio. He was a professor at the University of Virginia Law School and the University of Chicago; he was a visiting professor at Georgetown University and Stanford University. He also served as an editor for the American Enterprise Institute.

    He was nominated to the US Court of Appeals for District of Columbia Circuit by Ronald Reagan on July 15, 1982 (seat vacated by Roger Robb). He was nominated to the Supreme Court on June 24, 1986 (seat vacated by William H. Rehnquist).

  • Anthony McLeod Kennedy (1988-present)
    Kennedy was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Reagan. A native of Sacramento, CA (b. 1936), he attended Stanford University and Harvard Law School. He was a PFC, California Army National Guard, 1961.

    Prior to becoming a Supreme Court Justice, he was in private practice in San Francisco and Sacrament, California. He was a professor at University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.

    He was nominated to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit by President Ford on March 3, 1975 (seat vacated by Charles Merton Merrill). He was nominated to the Supreme Court on November 30, 1987 (seat vacated by Lewis F. Powell, Jr.).

  • David Hackett Souter (1990-present)
    Souter was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Bush. A native of Melrose, MA (b. 1939), he attended Harvard College; Magdalen College, Oxford University (Rhodes Scholar) ; and Harvard Law School.

    Prior to becoming a Supreme Court Justice, he was in private practice in Concord, New Hampshire; was New Hampshire state attorney general; and was a state judge.

    He was nominated to the US Court of Appeals for the First Circuit Nominated by George H.W. Bush on January 24, 1990 (seat vacated by Hugh Henry Bownes). He was nominated to the Supreme Court on July 25, 1990 (seat vacated by William Joseph Brennan, Jr.) .
