Wal-Mart: Good for America?
Monday November 15, 2004
Two TV shows
this week examine this question. Wal-Mart is the nation's largest private employer and real estate developer; reportedly 82 percent of American households shopped there last year. It currently faces the largest employment discrminiation
suit ever filed.
The discount retailer is ubiquitous throughout America's breadbasket, as I disovered in August while driving cross country. However, is expansion into urban centers has increasingly been met with local citizen and business resistance.
Monday night at 7 pm, CNBC airs "The Age of Wal-Mart - Inside America's Most Powerful Company," which explores, among other things, the firm's clout with suppliers, a topic that has already been widely reported.
Tuesday at 10 pm, PBS Frontline airs "Is Wal-Mart Good for America?" This profile examines Wal-Mart's evolution from "Made in America" (does anyone else remember this ad tagline?) to "made in China."
See CNBC, PBS: Frontline, Newsday, Seattle Times, Wal-Mart in the news

is there anything else better in this world that you could be concintrating on?
people are dyeing everyday.
and your worried about walmart?
hahaha yall need to get a life walmart is good for america so many jobs u pindehos
ppl walmart is not good for america plz dont say anything when you have no idea what you’re talkin about.
Walmart is good for some but not for the people and companies that go under because of how Walmart trades with China, and its very unfair to the US citizens and for the Chinese.
walmart is not so good for america b/c walmart is bullying the buyers while supplying their products at their desired prices. thats why many companies moved to china so they can compete w/ walmart and that has left america w/ a LOt of fewer jobs
however walmart is good for buyers like us
Wal-Mart is a bad employer, a bad neighbor, and is bad for tax payers. It’s business practices must be stopped.
Plus, I do not understand why anyone would choose to shop in such a dreadful environment…. and don’t believe the BS about low price. I have compared and it just is not true.
