Earmarks: Not Just For Republicans

The New York Times analyzes the growth in earmarks in the Democratic Congress during this election year. For example, earmarks have more than doubled in the House appropriations bill for the Department of Labor, Health and Human Services: $618.8 million for fiscal 2009 versus $277.9 million for fiscal 2008. The current total in seven spending bills: 3,796 earmarks worth about $2.7 billion.
