Obama's Acceptance Speech

Thursday August 28, 2008
If you had any doubt that politics today is almost indistinguishable from entertainment, this long-shot of the "stage" where Barack Obama delivered his acceptance speech at the Democratic National Convention should set that to rest. Read the speech; watch the YouTube clip.

I (unfortunately) missed history in the making and didn’t hear Obama deliver his speech live. So when I caught up with last night’s events and saw this ’stage’ on the news shows today, I did a double take. Wow.

Last time I saw stairs like those on TV, beautiful models were posed on each step, Howie Mandel was holding a silver case and asking, “Deal or no deal?” (I guess we all are asking ourselves the same thing.)

The parallels between entertainment and politics are indeed startling…and may even border on frightening.

Hi, Linda… the stage was … startling. When I read “Girls Like Us,” I learned that the first “rock stars” to campaign for a presidential candidate were James Taylor and Carole King. The candidate? George McGovern.

Having the event at the football stadium … making it look like a cross between a Rolling Stones set and one for a televangelist… what were they thinking? =:-0

It was brilliant, one of the 3 greatest speeches I’ve ever heard in my life… and maybe the best of those 3.
