Obama Leads In Newspaper Endorsements

From Kathy Gill, About.com GuideOctober 14, 2008

Follow me on:

Even though the election is three weeks away, voters around the country have absentee ballots in hand. And newspapers have begun a quadrennial exercise: developing presidential endorsements. Endorsements have been made in 19 states: Obama has picked up 28 to McCain's 11.

Even Christopher Hitchens is now endorsing Obama. :-D The rats are living the sinking (Republican) ship.

On many points I agree with Hitchens. Except, party trumps person and with all of the McCain/Palin faults, they’re still better than an Obama 4 year term.

Well, fair enough, I can understand your opinion there. But I actually tend to agree with Hitchens (despite the fact that it makes me choke…) that for the executive power (in any country), personality is more important than party. Let’s face it, parties are more important for the assemblies and the legislative power in general. But for rapid reaction, implementation of laws, international relations and so on, nothing replaces a neat guy with a clear view, wits, intelligence and some charisma. His ideas and affiliation are less relevant. Especially if he is not a strong ideologist. And I would contend that neither of the current US candidates are ideologically strong.
