Michelle Obama and Ann Romney have something in common: They're both more popular than their husbands. But of the two women, whom do American voters view more favorably?

The first last is still more popular than the former first lady of Massachusetts, according to a new poll by ABC News and The Washington Post. But Mrs. Romney is catching up fast.
The survey, conducted from Oct. 4 through Oct. 7, found that 67 percent of Americans have a favorable opinion of Mrs. Obama and 56 percent have a favorable opinion of Mrs. Romney, the wife of Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney. The margin of error is 4 percentage points.
Mrs. Romney's approval ratings have soared as voters become more familiar with her. She has taken a far more active role in her husband's presidential campaign since April; the number of Americans who view hew favorably has increased by 12 percentage points since, the poll found.
Mrs. Obama and Mrs. Romney both are more popular than their husbands. In the same ABC News/Washington Post poll, the president was viewed favorably by 55 percent of Americans.
President Obama is seen favorably by 55 percent, and Romney 47 percent.
