Presidential Comparison: Debt as Percentage of GDP

by Kathy Gill
for About.com

From 1980-2007, we had four presidents: three Republicans and one Democrat. Look at what happened to the gross (total) federal debt, as a percentage of GDP, during each man's term. The only person who saw a decrease during his term of office was President Clinton. The greatest increase was under Reagan, but Bush 43 could be a close second.

These data are from the White House.
